From June 29 to July 1, Chile’s Ambassador to China Luis Schmidt visited Chongqing.
Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor Tang Liangzhi met with the Chilean ambassador to China Schmidt and his party. Tang Liangzhi, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, and on behalf of Secretary Chen Miner, welcomed Schmidt and his party to visit Chongqing and wished the Chilean Wine Association a complete success. Tang Liangzhi said that Chile is the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. In December last year, the President of the State had a telephone conversation with President Pinera, which pointed out the direction for us to promote the continuous development of the China-Chile comprehensive strategic partnership. Chongqing has a prominent location advantage, an important strategic position, and a vast market space. In the past decade, the permanent population of the city has increased by more than 3.2 million, and its development trend is good. At present, we are fully implementing the Chairman’s important instructions and requirements for Chongqing, in-depth promotion of the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual-city economic circle, coordinated promotion of economic recovery growth and high-quality development, and strive to play a supporting role in promoting the development of the western region in the new era. To play a leading role in promoting the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, to play a demonstrative role in promoting the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China with practical achievements. We vigorously promote the construction of inland open highlands, give full play to the advantages of open channels such as China-Europe trains and new land-sea channels, and continuously improve the level of interconnection and better integrate into the new development pattern. Chile is a beautiful country and it is very desirable. In recent years, Chongqing and Chile have had close exchanges and cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen. In particular, the two sides have joined hands to fight the epidemic, which reflects the profound friendship of mutual assistance. It is hoped that the two sides will further deepen cooperation in the fields of agriculture, machinery manufacturing, automobiles and motorcycles, digital economy, new energy, education, health, cultural tourism, and local exchanges, so as to bring more benefits to the people of the two places.
Schmidt congratulated the Chinese Communist Party on its centennial birthday and spoke highly of the outstanding achievements the Chinese Communist Party has led the Chinese people in the past 100 years. He said that Chongqing is a beautiful mountain city, a river city, and one of the largest cities in the world. The achievements in epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development are worth learning. I have visited Chongqing many times, and this time I really feel the tremendous changes in the city. In recent years, the cooperation between the two sides has achieved remarkable results and the prospects are very broad. Chile is willing to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation with Chongqing in economic and trade, agriculture, humanities, scientific and technological innovation, etc., actively bridge the exchanges and cooperation between the business and business communities of the two sides, expand cooperation space, enhance cooperation levels, and contribute to the development of China-Chile comprehensive strategic partnership.
